Social networking has taken on a whole new meaning...or has it?

A friend recently said social networking used to mean a cocktail party. Although social interactions are happening online more and more, it has not lost the personal and in-person contact of the cocktail party.

Quite the contrary, more people are meeting – or Tweeting – up thanks to social media. People are becoming closer friends, reconnecting with old friends and making new friends that without online social networking they would not have had the reason, means or time to connect. Whether personal networking, professional networking or networking to support a cause or raise awareness social networks breathed new life into personal connectivity being part of a community.

Social networking may indeed have a new meaning, but the end result is the same.
